Rhinoplasty Q & A

What is a rhinoplasty?

You might be more familiar with the term nose job when it comes to rhinoplasty. The surgery changes the shape or size of your nose to your specifications. With a rhinoplasty at Advanced Facial Surgery, you can make your face look more balanced, proportionate, or symmetrical.

Your nose is one of your most prominent facial features, and its shape plays a key role in defining the way your face looks. Dr. Manolakakis takes the time to evaluate your facial contours and design a fitting new nose shape for your face. He takes your preferences into account and makes sure that the final result looks natural and suits you.

How can I change my nose with rhinoplasty?

There are many specific adjustments you can make with rhinoplasty surgery. Very few people are satisfied with the natural shape or size of their noses, and rhinoplasty can make small or large adjustments. During rhinoplasty, Dr. Manolakakis can correct:

  • Bridge bumps
  • Depressions on the bridge
  • Uneven nostril sizes
  • Uneven nostril shapes
  • A bulbous tip
  • An upturned nose
  • Asymmetry

Additionally, Dr. Manolakakis can correct structural defects inside your nose that impair your breathing. While many people get rhinoplasty surgery for cosmetic reasons only, others get it to correct a deviated septum or airway obstructions.

How should I prepare for rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty takes lots of preparation and planning. It all starts with a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Manolakakis. He asks about your medical history and performs a quick physical examination. Then, he takes photos of your nose to use in the planning of your surgery. He can manipulate the photos to help you understand possible results and limitations of the surgery.

Before your surgery, Dr. Manolakakis requests that you stop smoking for several weeks. He might also tell you to adjust certain medications and avoid others in the weeks leading up to your appointment. Finally, you should arrange for a ride to and from the clinic on the day of your surgery since you won’t be able to drive yourself home. Dr. Manolakakis tells you what to expect during the recovery stage so you can plan ahead before the surgery too.
